While mice are typically smaller than rats, a young rat can be similar in size and appearance to a mouse. There are, however, tell-tale signs that give away their differences. Mice tend to have larger ears than rats, and their tails are longer when compared to their body size. Rats typically have larger feet and heads compared to their body size than mice.
Norway rats and roof rats don't nest in the same areas. As their name indicates, roof rats nest in the upper parts of buildings. They are excellent climbers and usually enter through the roof.
